Today we cross an alarming threshold. It’s #earthovershootday the point each year at which humanity starts to consume the world’s natural resources faster than they can be replenished. We’ve taken 209 days to burn through a year’s worth of resources, everything from food and timber to land and carbon, using up nature must faster than it can be replenished.

The burden of our ecological debt is getting heavier. Over the last 20 years, Earth Overshoot Day has moved forward by more than two months. And this year, it’s marked on the earliest date yet.

We are over exploiting our natural reserves at the expense of our planet and all it’s living creatures. Global warming is becoming an even greater issue that is leading to the extinction of animal species and also affecting us humans in the form of wildfires, droughts, flooding and water depletion.

We have to start making conscientious choices when it comes to our human consumption, from the food we eat, by reducing our consumption of meat and going plastic free, to the clothes that we wear, to the transport we use to travel, all of which are responsible for greenhouse emissions. We are one world, and we have to consider the effect our actions have on one another and the world around us. Be the change you wish to see in the world and start paying more attention to how you live your life. If we all did this, it would amount to a big change for our planet Earth.
